Press Release- Appointment of New SAUT Vice Chancellor

The President of the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), Chancellor of the Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT), and Bishop of Lindi, Rt. Rev. Wolfgang Pisa, OFMCap, has appointed Prof. Fr. Emmanuel Charles Wabanhu as the Vice Chancellor of the Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT), with effect from August 01, 2026. The appointment has been made in accordance with Article 11, read together with Rule 10 of the Charter of the Saint Augustine University of Tanzania, 2012, as published under Government Notice (GN) No. 580 of 2020, made pursuant to the Universities Act, Cap. 346, Revised Edition 2023. Prof. Fr. Wabanhu is an associate Professor and a Catholic priest of the Catholic Diocese of Geita, Tanzania. Prof. Wabanhu is a distinguished educator and scholar, widely recognized for his contributions to the field of Moral Theology with specialization in Applied Ethics. He has over thirteen (13) years of teaching experience as a Senior Lecturer at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) Nairobi, Kenya, and two (2) years as Deputy Principal for Administration and Finance at Archbishop Mihayo University College of Tabora (AMUCTA), Tanzania. He has published five books and over twenty academic articles in peer-reviewed journals. Prof. Fr. Wabanhu holds a Bachelor's Degree in Theology from the Pontifical Urban University (Pontificia Università Urbaniana), Rome, Italy; a Master of Religious Studies, a Master of Theology, a Doctorate in Sacred Theology (STD); and a PhD in Social (Business) Ethics from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium.
