SAUT specialises in eight
professional areas: Journalism (both print and electronic), Mass
Communications, Accountancy, Sociology, Economics, Procurement and
Logistics, ICT, Medicine, Education (Arts & Science), Human
Resources Management, Marketing Management, Law and Health
Administration, leading to Masters’ degrees, Bachelor’s degrees,
Advanced Diplomas, and Certificates. The University also sponsors
short courses and seminars as well providing consultancy and
research services.

1.1 Faculty of Business Administration
1.1.1 Master of Business Administration (MBA)
The MBA degree Program seeks to equip students with skills,
techniques and understanding of the administration of public, and
private enterprises. The program admits every student who has the
background in business administration as well as those whose
backgrounds are in other disciplines.
1.1.2 Postgraduate Diplomas in Accounting
and Finance (PGDAF)
This is a one-year programme divided into two semesters with two
blocks each. Over the years, the then Nyegezi Social Training
Institute and many other similar institutions in the country have
offered Diplomas in Accountancy, Materials Management, and other
related business diplomas. These courses targeted middle and senior
cadres of personnel who will fit in the various sectors for the
economy in their role as accountants, supplies officers, and
financial managers.
1.1.4 Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
Combining academic and professional training, this three-year
programme challenges students to examine the responsibilities of the
accountant and other business professionals in contemporary society
and to meet the need for significant research in their areas of
expertise.
1.1.5 Advanced Diploma in Accountancy (ADA)
This is a three-year course providing high-level education in
professional accountancy. Upon successful completion, graduates are
eligible to sit for the NBAA’s Professional Level III Examinations.
1.1.6 Advanced Diploma in Procurement and
Logistics Management
This three-year course offers high-level education in the field of
Materials Management. Upon successful completion, graduates will be
eligible to sit for the NBMM’S professional Stage III examinations.
1.1.7 Certificate Course in Accountancy
This one-year course is intended to train students in basic
accounting techniques, management and business administration.
1.1.8 Certificate Course in Health
Administration
This is a one-year course intended to provide trainees with
sufficient knowledge and expertise to administer health centres, as
well as small to medium-size hospitals and other health care
programmes.
1.1.9 Certificate Course in Food Security and
Grain Management
The one-year Certificate in grain management and food security aims
at providing knowledge to students that would enable them to care
for grain and manage businesses related to grain and improve the
value of grain.
1.1.10 Certificate Course in Logistics and
Supply Management
The one-year course aims at equipping students with basic tools for
performing logistics and supply management functions.
1.2 Faculty of Social Sciences and
Communications
1.2.1 Master of Arts in Mass Communications
(MAMC)
The Master of Arts Degree in Mass Communications aims at producing
candidates capable of integrating advanced media theory and research
techniques in their professional lives and work. The program is
tailored to produce candidates imbued with an entrepreneurial spirit
capable of creative solutions in the current tight labour market in
terms of generating self-employment opportunities.
1.2.2 Postgraduate Diploma in Mass
Communication (PGDMC)
This one-year programme of Postgraduate Diploma in Mass
Communication is meant to be a remedial program for candidates with
Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas or First Degrees but without the
requisite pass marks. The program is also intended for people
working in mass media industry for a long time who may wish to
improve their academic credentials.
1.2.3 Bachelor of Arts in Mass
Communication (BAMC)
The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication (BAMC) is intended
for candidates wishing to pursue academic, professional and research
careers in mass media and public relations ambits. The program
offers candidates advanced communication theory as well as an
understanding of the workings of mass media institutions in the
contemporary world.
1.2.4 Bachelor of Arts in Economics (BAEc.)
This three-year programme aims at increasing ability of students to
compete with the world economies through diversification. Training
is devoted to the advancing of economic policy research and capacity
building, enabling our poor economies to grapple with challenges by
initiating and undertaking economic research, and building the
capacity of economic researchers and policy makers by involving them
in field practical with a research component.
1.2.5 Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (BASoc.)
This program is oriented towards job opportunities requiring an
understanding of people and social behavior. It provides candidates
with a wide choice of careers in the society such as social work,
community development, management, social research, politics,
education, market research, and industrial public administration.
1.2.6 Certificate Course in Journalism and
Media Studies
This one-year course is intended to train students in basic
techniques of broadcasting, news reporting and editing and general
knowledge of mass media studies.
1.3 Faculty of Education
1.3.1 Bachelor of Arts with Education (BAEd.)
This program intends to give students the foundations on which
Education is built. The areas of specialization are: History,
Geography, English and Kiswahili. In order to graduate in a
three-year Bachelor of Arts with Education programme, a student must
take and pass a minimum of 110 units and a maximum of 119.
1.4 Faculty of Law
1.4.1 Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
Faculty of Law will have the obligation to offer legal education
aimed at providing theoretical knowledge, analytical and practical
skills which are necessary to produce a society-conscious lawyer who
can contribute to the development of his/her country and the
international community. This will be a four years program.

DIRECTORATE OF POSTGRADUATE STUDIES RESEARCH,
CONSULTANCY,
PUBLICATIONS AND SHORT COURSE PROGRAMMES |

This directorate reaches out to the local community and East
Africa generally to provide specialized services of an academic,
practical and civic nature. Some short courses are offered on a
regular basis, some are given only occasionally, and others are
tailored specifically to the needs of the client. Consultancy
is provided to a variety of organizations that can benefit from
the University’s expertise. The purpose is to enable SAUT to
benefit individuals and groups not formally enrolled in one of
the one-year or three-year programmes. In this way, the
University serves the needs of business, educational
institutions, non-government organizations, and individual
persons in the civic community.
